01How do I check that an online operator is legal in Portugal?
Check the brand, the domain and the type of licence against the SRIJ's up-to-date list. A well-known logo or a domain that looks Portuguese does not replace that check.
02Is online poker allowed?
The SRIJ lists poker in tournament mode and non-banked variants among the regulated online games. A specific offer is legal only when the operator and its licence authorise that type of game.
03Is a .pt website automatically safe?
No. The website, the operating company and the licence must match the SRIJ list. Always check the exact address before opening an account or depositing.
04Where can live poker take place?
The SRIJ's general rule is that land-based games of chance are operated and played in casinos located in gaming zones, under concession.
05Does tournament poker have its own rules?
Yes. Hold’em and Omaha, including in tournament mode, are on the list of regulated games, and the SRIJ links to their specific rules of play.
06Where can I find the official list of casinos?
The SRIJ keeps a page with the casinos, their concession holders, addresses and contacts. Confirm directly with the casino whether it offers poker and what the schedule is.
07Can under-18s play?
No. The legal protection published by the SRIJ bars under-18s from casino gaming rooms.
08Which limits should I set before playing?
Decide in advance the time and the money you can lose without affecting essential expenses. Raising a limit should never be a reaction to losses.
09Does self-exclusion cover every operator?
When requested on the SRIJ platform, it covers every online gambling website licensed in Portugal. When requested with a single operator, it applies only to that website.
10What is the risk of playing on an illegal website or at an illegal venue?
The SRIJ warns of lost money, exposed personal data and fraud. Unauthorised venues offer none of the protection of the regulated market.
11Can I run a buy-in tournament in a bar or hotel?
Do not go ahead on that assumption. Before announcing, charging or promising prizes, get a written framework from an authorised partner and legal advice in Portugal.
12Which part of an event can PokerRota handle?
Content, community, education, translation and distribution can be kept separate from operating the game. Buy-ins, prizes, security and regulatory obligations must stay with the authorised entity.
13What must I confirm before announcing an event?
Confirm in writing the operating entity, venue, format, responsibilities, payments, data protection and legal review before opening registrations.
